India – February 2008

In February 2008, the Department of Business, led by Minister Paul Oram, participated in a business prospecting visit to India where new opportunities to attract business investment to Newfoundland and Labrador were explored.

The visit included meetings in New Delhi, Mumbai, and the southwestern state of Goa, and new contacts were made in the areas of pharmaceutical production and information technology. The delegation also met with the Economic Development Council in Maharashtra, one of India’s largest states, where both parties agreed to explore future business partnership opportunities. As well, department officials attended a global information technology conference in Mumbai held by India’s National Association of Software and Service Companies.
